This beautiful building is currently under construction and will comprise 9 energy efficient apartments.
Located on a wide and tree-lined road, this run-down house formed part of a group of stunning Victorian detached houses. Unfortunately, the appearance of this house fell far below the neighbouring houses as the original yellow "London stock" bricks had been painted red many decades ago and unattractive aluminium windows had been installed. The building had also been spoiled by an awkward rear extension with plastic windows and a large conservatory. Furthermore, one of the front window bays and the original porch had been removed whilst the front elevation had been blighted by a multitude of faded plastic drain pipes.
The building has been demolished to make way for a new block of flats but the front facade has been carefully dismantled and painstakingly rebuilt to its former glory whilst being enhanced with extensive thermal insulation. As part of the restoration, the painted faces of the bricks have been reversed so their original yellow faces are showing to match the adjacent houses and create a significant improvement to the appearance of the street. The aluminium sash windows will be replaced with period-correct timber sash windows with energy-efficient glazing. The site will also be enhanced with carefully curated plants and landscaping.
Recycling was a key consideration so old bricks have been salvaged to be reused in the reconstruction whilst old floor boards have been reused to protect trees from damage during the works.
This development will become a spectacular showcase of modern living behind a fully insulated period facade.
